We are pleased that you will be joining us for our Yoga for the Special Child® Continuing Education on Scleroderma and Arthritis from Friday, June 25 to Sunday, June 27, 2021.  It will be held at The Yoga Center Reno, 720 Tahoe Street #C, Reno, NV  89509.  Your coordinator is Kathy Randolph, contact e-mail is kathy@yogaforscleroderma.com, contact phone is (775) 322-4600.

PREREQUISITE one of:

  • 200HR Yoga Teacher Training and 1 year teaching a population with special needs.
  • Health background (PT, OT, RT, SLP, Nurse, Special Education Teacher) plus 1 year of consistent personal yoga practice.
  • Yoga the Special Child Basic 1 Program plus 1 year of consistent personal yoga practice.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

The course hours are Friday 5:30 to 8:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS

This program qualifies for continuing education of 20 hours. The Workshop program is approved for CEU’s by:

  • Yoga Alliance
  • International Association of Yoga Therapists
  • American Occupational Therapy Association
  • Nevada State Board of Physical Therapy
  • Nevada State Board of Nursing

If you need continuing education credits from another profession please contact Kathy well in advance about approval by the appropriate State of Nevada authority. If you are from another state, you need to check with your own state board to see if they accept CEU’s approved in Nevada.

TRANSPORTATION

Kathy will provide transportation from the airport to your hotel if you arrive by 10:00 p.m.  On the final day, The Yoga Center can pick you and your luggage up at the hotel before the training, and then take you directly to the airport afterwards if you wish.

MEALS & ACCOMMODATIONS  

Participants are responsible for their meals and accommodations. If you need a room with handicap access, please remember to mention it at the time you make your reservation.

MEALS

There are many reasonably priced restaurants within 1 mile of The Yoga Center. Most have vegetarian available, some provide made to order for food allergies, vegan and vegetarian.  There are 4 parks within 1 mile for picnicking.  The Great Basin Food Co-op, with local organic groceries, is several blocks from The Yoga Center and one block from the Legacy Vacation Club.  There are also whole food and organic stores within driving distance.

ACCOMODATIONS

Please note it is Rodeo Week: Reno is a tourist destination, hotels fill early, please book your reservation as soon as possible.

Legacy Vacation Resort: We have arranged to have group hotel rates at the Legacy Vacation Resort. It is easy walking distance, and all units have fully equipped kitchens. This is an older resort, clean and well maintained. Note that this is a timeshare and does not offer daily maid service (housekeeping services are available for an additional fee) but does provide clean towels and sheets whenever requested. Downtown casinos, nearby hotels and motels, Airbnb: Downtown casinos are .7 to 1.5 miles from The Yoga Center. Please note the casino gaming areas are all smoking areas. You can find some good deals on the various travel websites, please check on walking distance to The Yoga Center if you will not have a car. Please contact Kathy if you want to ask about the neighborhood you are looking at.

WHAT TO BRING

  • A notebook and writing materials
  • A yoga mat.  The Yoga Center has mats available for your use if you are traveling light.

WHAT TO WEAR

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes, including pants and shirts that allow you to move freely during yoga postures. The weather in Reno in June can range from snow to 100-degree temperatures, and often include 40-degree swings from day to night. Dress in layers, and bring sunglasses, hat and sunscreen.  The area is in the high desert, at 4,800 ft. elevation with single digit humidity, so drink plenty of water.

Must be made in full by May 15, 2021

All payments made are non-refundable, unless the program is canceled by Yoga for the Special Child (YSC), in which event you will receive a full refund. YSC shall not be responsible for refunding airline tickets or hotels under any circumstances. You will be notified when the program is confirmed so you can book your tickets and hotels.

If registrant cancels 10 or more days before the program start date by notifiying YSC, the sum of $80 shall be deducted by YSC as an expense of administration. Any balance paid in excess of $80 shall be held for registrant without interest and may be applied by registrant to another program within one year of cancellation. If not applied within one year, all monies paid shall be forfeited.

If registrant cancels less than 10 days before the program start date, the sum of $180 shall be deducted by YSC as an expense of administration. Any balance paid in excess of $180 shall be held by YSC without interest and may be applied by registrant to another program within one year of cancellation. If not applied within one year, all monies paid shall be forfeited.

Barring a medical emergency, no refund will be issued to participants after the program begins.

ABSENTEE POLICY

No Certificate or License will be issued to any participant who fails to attend the complete program. There are no exceptions.

The teacher training experience can be a time of deep emotional connection for some people. Though this process is healing, it can also be stressful. If you have any history of mental illness i.e. depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder or any form of psychosis, it would be very helpful for your teacher to know in order to be sensitive to your needs.
