Christine Thompson

christine headshotChristine Thompson, CIYT: is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher who has been teaching Iyengar Yoga since 2012. Iyengar Yoga’s emphasis on clarity of instruction and demonstration, combined with its attention to correct structural alignment, inspired her from the moment of her first class in 2006 and she immediately became a devoted student.

In his book Light on Life, The Yoga Journey to Wholeness, Inner Peace, and Ultimate Freedom, B.K.S. Iyengar writes, “Yoga brings gifts from your very first day. These benefits can be experienced even by raw beginners, who feel something beginning to happen at a deep level in their bodies, in their minds, and even in their souls. Some describe the first gifts as a new feeling of lightness or calm or joy. The miracle is that after seventy years, these gifts are still increasing for me.”

Those gifts are precisely what Christine finds in her own practice, and it brings her great joy to share Iyengar Yoga with others. Borrowing a favorite phrase from her first teacher, she says, “Yoga makes my heart sing.” Christine’s classes provide new and experienced students alike with the gift of Iyengar Yoga’s careful sequencing and progressive leaning of asanas (postures), which help to bring and build strength, stamina, stability, and flexibility of body, mind, and spirit.

Christine graduated from the three-year Iyengar Yoga teacher training program of Southern California/San Diego in 2013, and she received her full certification in 2015 after completing two intensive examinations. She was trained by Senior Iyengar Yoga Teachers Manous Manos, Gloria Goldberg and Carolyn Belko, and she’s also been privileged to study with Sunita Iyengar and Bijoo Mehta, senior Iyengar teachers from India. She continues her studies with these and other Senior Iyengar teachers.

Christine also has had a career as a writer and editor, and she currently works for the Nevada Cancer Coalition (NCC) as Community Programs Manager. She looks forward to offering special classes that will benefit NCC’s work in support of cancer prevention, early detection and survivorship.
