A long and luxurious Sunday morning yoga class that will leave you feeling both energized and restored. The first half of the practice will include long-held floor postures and myofascial release (self massage) techniques to slowly warm and prepare the body and mind for deeper opening and exploration. The second half of the practice is gently active. The morning practice will conclude with guided breath-work and quiet meditation.

Set the morning, the afternoon, or the whole day aside for self-care with Katie Louvat at her monthly long practice. The morning begins with slow and gently active asana practice. The day ends on a quiet note with a therapeutic afternoon of restorative yoga, myofascial release, breath-work, and meditation.

Morning Active Practice
Jan. 21, 9 – 11:30 am, $40
A long and luxurious Sunday morning yoga class. The practice begins with long-held floor postures and myofascial release (self massage) techniques to slowly warm and prepare the body and mind for deeper opening and exploration. The extra time makes it possible for students to linger in asanas and meditate on concepts and themes with a depth and thoroughness that is not always possible in shorter weekly classes. Katie hopes these sessions will inspire students to approach their yoga with renewed curiosity, attention, and pleasure.

Afternoon Yin & Restorative
Jan. 21, 1:30 – 4 pm, $40
A quiet, therapeutic, and nourishing afternoon of restorative yoga. In a relaxed state, your parasympathetic nervous system becomes dominant and the body is able to heal itself, reversing the physiological, mental, and spiritual effects of chronic stress. Katie will guide you through a combination of supported postures, myofascial release, breath-work, and meditation that will leave you feeling rested and renewed.

My first long practice of the season is coming up this Sunday at The Yoga Center. There will just be one morning session this month. Class will begin slowly with a combination of long-held floor postures and myofascial release (self massage) to warm and prepare the mind and body for a gently active asana practice. YOGA FOR THE SPECIAL CHILD® BASIC 1 PROGRAM

The Yoga Center – Reno offers Yoga for the Special Child® Basic 1 Program, a comprehensive training course in the theory and practice of teaching yoga to babies and children with learning or developmental disabilities, from June 17 to June 23, 2017  at 720 Tahoe Street #C, Reno, NV 89509.

Sonia Sumar, creator of Yoga for the Special Child®, with Kathy Randolph, Licensed Yoga for the Special Child® Program Teacher.

Using hands-on instruction and video, Licensed Yoga for the Special Child® Program Teacher Kathy Randolph teaches participants how to adapt yoga for the successive stages in a special child’s development, from infancy through adolescence.

Designed for parents, yoga teachers, educators, physical and occupational therapists, and health care professionals, this program provides the basic tools for teaching yoga to children with special needs. No previous experience in yoga is required to attend this teacher training program. Benefits to children participating in Yoga for the Special Child® – the Sonia Sumar Method are mindfulness, concentration, physical ease, emotional balance, and ultimately peace of mind and happiness.

Randolph’s week-long session addresses the following topics: choosing the most effective yoga routine, creating the optimum home and classroom environment, specialized breathing exercises and relaxation techniques to improve concentration, and adapting yoga techniques to children with different syndromes and disorders. Populations addressed include individuals living with: autism, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and other cognitive and learning disabilities.
