We are pleased that you will be joining us for our June 24-30, 2018, Yoga for the Special Child® Basic 2 Program. It will be held at The Yoga Center Reno, 720 Tahoe Street, Reno, NV 89509, (775) 881-7848, www.theyogacenterreno.com. Your host is Kathy Randolph, contact e-mail is kathy@theyogacenterreno.com.
PREREQUISITES
Yoga for the Special Child® Basic 1 Program is mandatory before attending Basic Part 2 Program.
HOMEWORK
To be completed before attending the Basic Program Part 2:
Teach 4 half hour classes to a child or group of children, and record the last class for presentation at Basic 2. A ny age from 0 to 18 is fine, but you are encouraged to teach older children since that is the focus of the Basic 2. Bring the recorded class to the Basic 2 so that it can be played in Windows Media Player or in Quick Time.
PROGRAM SCHEDULE
The course begins Tuesday, June 24th at 8:00 a.m. and ends Monday, June 30th at 1:00p.m. The Program outline is attached.
CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS
The Workshop program is being submitted for Continuing Education Credits by:
- Nevada State Board of Physical Therapy
- Nevada State Board of Occupational Therapy
- Nevada State Board of Nursing
- Nevada State Board of Audiology and Speech Pathology
- Nevada Registry for Early Childhood Education
If you need continuing education credits in a related occupation please contact Kathy well in advance about approval by the appropriate State of Nevada authority. If you are from another state, you need to check with your own state board to see if they accept CEU’s approved in Nevada.
TRANSPORTATION
We can will provide transportation from the airport to your hotel if you arrive by 10pm. On the final day, we can pick you and your luggage up at the hotel before the training, and then take you directly to the airport afterwards if you wish. The Yoga Center will also provide transportation for several outings to markets for food shopping if you aren’t driving a car.
MEALS & ACCOMMODATIONS
Participants will be responsible for their meals and accommodations. If you need a room with handicap access, please remember to mention it at the time you make your reservation.
MEALS
There are many reasonably priced restaurants within 1 mile of The Yoga Center. Most have vegetarian available, some provide made to order for food allergies, vegan and vegetarian. There are 4 parks within 1 mile for picnicking. The Great Basin Food Co-op, with local organic groceries, is several blocks from The Yoga Center and one block from the Legacy Vacation Club. There are also whole food and organic stores within driving distance. The Yoga Center will provide transportation for several outings so you can shop for food if you aren’t driving a car.
ACCOMODATIONS
Please note: Reno is a tourist destination and hotels fill early. Please book your reservation as soon as possible.
We have arranged to have group hotel rates at the Legacy Vacation Resort. It is not a casino; it is close, and all units have fully equipped kitchens. This is an older resort, clean and well maintained. Note that this is a timeshare, and does not offer daily maid service (housekeeping services are available for an additional fee), but does provide clean towels and sheets whenever requested. Contact Kathy for rates and booking details.
Downtown casinos, nearby hotels and motels are .7 to 1.5 miles from The Yoga Center Reno. Please note the casino gaming areas are all smoking areas. You can find some good deals on the various travel websites and Airbnb, but do check on walking distance if you will not have a car. Please contact Kathy at The Yoga Center if you want to ask about the neighborhood you are looking at.
AIRPORT
Reno/Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is 2.3 miles from The Yoga Center Reno.
WHAT TO BRING
-A notebook and writing materials
-A yoga mat. The Yoga Center Reno has mats available for your use if you are traveling light.

WHAT TO WEAR
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes, including pants and shirts that allow you to move freely during yoga postures. The weather in Reno in June can range from snow to 100 degree temperatures, and often includes 40 degree temperature swings from day to night. Dress in layers, and bring sunglasses, hat and sunscreen. The area is in the high desert, at 4,800 ft. elevation and humidity in the single digits, so drink plenty of water.
CHILDREN
Parents will be responsible for providing their own childcare. We can put you in contact with certified teachers and licensed day care providers in the area if you like. Please contact Kathy at The Yoga Center Reno for referrals.
PROGRAM PAYMENT
A deposit of $300.00 will hold your space, and total payment of $1,180.00 ($300.00 deposit and $880.00 final payment) for the Basic 2 Program must be made in full at least one month prior to the program start date. You can pay by check or by PayPal. Please contact Kathy if you would like a PayPal invoice, which will include a PayPal fee so your total payment will be $1,220.00 ($300.00 deposit and $920.00 final payment).
CANCELLATIONS
All payments made are non-refundable, unless the program is canceled by Yoga for the Special Child (YSC), in which event you will receive a full refund. However YSC shall not be responsible for refunding airline tickets or hotels under any circumstances.
If registrant cancels 10 or more days before the program start date by notifying YSC, the sum of $80 shall be deducted by YSC as an expense of administration. Any balance paid in excess of $80 shall be held for registrant without interest, and may be applied by registrant to another program within one year of cancellation. If not applied within one year, all monies paid shall be forfeited.
If registrant cancels less than 10 days before the program start date, the sum of $300 shall be deducted by YSC as an expense of administration. Any balance paid in excess of $300 shall be held by YSC without interest, and may be applied by registrant to another program within one year of cancellation. If not applied within one year, all monies paid shall be forfeited,
Barring a medical emergency, no refund will be issued to participants after the Program begins.
ABSENTEE POLICY
No Certificate or License will be issued to any participant who fails to attend the complete program. There are no exceptions.
The teacher training experience can be a time of deep emotional connection for some people. Though this process is healing, it can also be stressful. If you have any history of mental illness i.e. depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder or any form of psychosis, it would be very helpful for your teacher to know in order to be sensitive to your needs.
*PLEASE NOTIFY US IF YOU WILL BE TAKING ANY PRESCRIPTION DRUGS DURING THE TIME OF THE PROGRAM.
