Somatic Muscle Release goes to the heart of tight muscles – the brain.  As we age, our muscles take on certain patterns acceptable to the nervous system, and those patterns become unconscious.  By making our movements conscious, in a slow, controlled way, we regain control of our own movement patterns, bringing length to tight muscles and ease throughout the body.

This class is designed to be delicious.  Don’t let the simplicity of the movements fool you – deep changes are taking place.  This 5-week series builds from the center of the body (oh, yes, let’s release that back!) to the hips and legs, and shoulders, neck and arms.  Your body can be both strong and pliant – you can draw a natural, easeful breath – and you can enjoy your day-to-day activities with greater freedom.

“By relaxation of effort and meditation on the infinite, posture is perfected.”—Yoga Sutra II.47

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Linda Eisenman has studied meditation and yoga for over 30 years, and in 2020 studied Hanna Somatics through the Novato Institute.  She is endlessly fascinated with the movement of the human body.  Her goal is to see mature adults regain the joy and freedom of their natural bodies.

TESTIMONIALS

“Yesterday evening I went for a 3+-mile walk with a friend, and was able to walk without needing to sit down to rest. That’s a first since my SI Joint fusion [almost two years ago]. So the classes are doing me a lot of good!!” Terry P

“This is better than my physical therapy treatments. I slept so soundly for three hours after our session, and woke up without pain.” Lyndy M

“Years of playing piano with hunched and tight shoulders were taking a toll on me. I was amazed at how a few simple Somatic exercises helped me relax my neck and shoulders and sit more upright as I play. My touch is more sensitive, and the piano responds with a stronger and more tender sound. I now use my whole body to play, not just my hands – and it’s a joy.” Marty E
